Book Of Shadows: Lesson 1

Your book of shadows is your own sort of Magickal Diary or Journal. In this book, you can write chants, spells, songs, things that you have done magickally and the effects that they have had on you or those around you. Anything that has to do with magick or spirituality should be written in your Book Of Shadows. This book should never be shown to someone that you do not trust, and as you get older and more things are added to it, you can pass it down to your children.

Book Of Shadows: Lesson 2

Your Book Of Shadows, since it is a magickal book that holds very personal and private information, should be cleansed and charged just like any magickal item. Along with cleansing and charging, it needs to be sealed. To seal something means that it is protected from other people using it. Sealing something magickally is like putting an invisible lock on it. A solar cross should be placed somewhere on the front of the book, which adds to the strength of the seal. There are other signs and sigils (symbols) that you can draw on the book as well.

  1. Why should you seal your Book Of Shadows?

Book Of Shadows: Lesson 3

Your Book Of Shadows should include dates, times, moon phases, reason for the entry, down to details like what herbs were used for incense, or what color candles were used. It’s best to be as detail-oriented as possible, that way you know what, when, how and why you did what you did for a similar purpose. For example, if you do a protection ritual for a pet that you are worried about, and it works the way you wanted it to, the next time you have a worry about a pet, you can do the same thing. If something didn’t work, you can go back and change it.

1. Start your own Book Of Shadows. Cleanse and charge it properly, and start an entry titled “Today I got my Book Of Shadows”. Be sure to include proper symbols on the covers, and remember to be as detail-oriented as possible in your first entry. Tell about how you felt when you got it, what it means to you to have it, and anything else that you feel is important.
